Using Colossians 2:6-7 as our mission verse, our desire is for kids to learn what it means to be a follower of Christ, who they are in His eyes, and how they fit into the church family. We strive to accomplish this by:
providing strong leaders who model what it means to live a life in Christ.
systematically teaching through the Bible, showing how it points to Christ.
nurture kids’ hearts through prayer and encouragement.
We love our Lord Jesus, who dearly loved and welcomed children to His side. It is our desire to reflect that same priority and love Christ had for the little ones as precious souls, world-changers of the future, and kids of His Kingdom. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers work passionately to provide the ministry opportunities listed here on the website.
While there are some paid staff as part of our nursery care, our ministry runs mostly on volunteers. Our paid staff offers consistency in order to build relationships with our littlest ones and to maintain safety standards. Volunteers fill many roles including Sunday School teachers, Music leaders, Small group facilitators, Children’s Church leaders, and Shepherds (care for the kids while others lead programming). All diapering and special needs are taken care of by the paid staff enabling the volunteer to assume responsibilities like reading a story, building blocks, singing, rocking a baby, etc. The children receive the blessing of love and attention while our volunteers receive the blessing of getting to know these precious children. If you would like to be part of our ministry team, please contact Alisa Gillis. Please also visit our nursery page for a nursery staff application.
John 9:1-3 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
Hixson Presbyterian Church is to be a safe place for families who have children with special needs. Our desire is to come alongside families and determine how best to meet those needs on a case by case basis. Our goal is to make every effort to share the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ to every child in a way that they can understand. When necessary, we will use alternative teaching formats such as multi-sensory activities and lessons. Our goal is to intentionally build relationships and the trust of the entire family affected by special needs. For more information or to discuss how we can meet your child’s needs, contact Alisa Gillis.

We are a body of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). We exist to bring God glory as we find our joy in Him above all else. By God’s grace, we will live out our mission by focusing on the gospel of grace which changes lives, by loving the lost, by grace-driven preaching and teaching, by fostering loving relationships, and by regularly gathering for worship.
