Learning 4 Change
The Mission of Hixson Presbyterian Church’s Adult Learning Program is to shape the body of HPC into the image of Christ through life transforming truth from scripture.
In the truest sense, the HPC Adult Learning Program is not learning for the sake of learning, but learning for the sake of change. Such change is visible in the life of a believer and will inevitably be visible within the individual’s community. The desired fruit of our labor is missional at its very core. This mission shapes the topics covered in each class as well as the manner in which they are taught and the frequency of classes. The following four objectives flow out of the Learning Program’s mission.
- Biblical Literacy: true change can only occur as we behold our image in the mirror of God’s Word alongside of the image of Christ, and are slowly transformed into His likeness. A biblically literate congregation is a spiritually mature congregation that is growing in grace collectively as a community.
- Practical Insight: The application of scripture to everyday life is where the proverbial slip between the cup and lip often occurs. The classes which make up the Adult Learning Program are intentionally designed to engage the culture of the 21st Century by addressing head-on topics which are overtly or sub-consciously influencing our society. All classes offered in the program will be designed to result in practical application for Christian living with the intention of providing Christ-centered soul care for members of HPC.
- Missional Focus: Christianity is a missional religion. Christ was sent to earth as the Word incarnate to fulfill a mission. Those who follow in His footsteps cannot help but be missional. Every class taught in the Adult Learning Program must contain the missional thread of the Church universal and HPC in particular woven through it.
- Communal Engagement: Most people learn best when they take ownership of the material and digest it verbally within a group of peers. For this reason, all classes included in the HPC Adult Learning program will contain a period of dialogue and discussion and offer opportunity for engaging the topic and each other.
These four elements make up the program’s objectives and can be easily remembered by an acronym: LIFE. For this reason, the program is known as Learning 4 Change. There are likewise four different categories of classes that will be offered: Bible, Theology, Christian Living, and Outreach. Each ministry year will include three semesters – a spring semester, fall semester, and summer semester. Over the course of five years, every book of the Bible will be systematically taught either individually or as part of a group.
Each year many of these classes will be taught during the Sunday School hour at 9:30am each week. You can click here to go to our main classes page or click here to head to the resource section of the website. We'll post as many resources as are available for each class.
