HPC Youth Happenings: 5/26/15
Dear Parents, Students and Volunteers,
Welcome to Summer! Olaf the Snowman is jealous. Our very first Summer Youth Event is THIS COMING FRIDAY! It's called Downtown Shenanigans, which is basically just a time where we go downtown, walk around, play frisbee or spikeball in Coolidge Park, and eat Ice Cream at Clumpie's. Your student should bring money for ice cream and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. We will meet at HPC at 6 PM and will probably return to HPC around 9:30 PM.
Vacation Bible School is just 6 days away (June 1st - 5th). We still need plenty of help from both adults and teenagers. If you are able to volunteer during VBS, please sign up online by following this link!
We also need help setting up this Sunday at 3 PM. Everyone is welcome to come help!
Please check out the summer events calendar located here, and the explanation of what we'll be teaching this summer here. Here are a few of the exciting highlights for the summer:
- Other fun event highlights include the Lord of the Rings Lock-in on July 10th. Adults, you can sign up to work a shift of the lock-in here.
- If you don't want to work a shift but still want to help, I will need people to make some Lord of the Rings themed food, and also someone to help come up with some Lord of the Rings themed games.
- Summer Underground will meet on Wednesday evenings starting June 3rd. This summer we'll use Counter Culture by David Platt as our conversation starter to discuss how Christians are called to respond to many of the difficult issues facing our society. For some of the weeks, we will have guest speakers, including:
June 10th: Steve Cavallaro and Danny Dalton, two PCA Pastors and also my two mentors from my Florida days. They will be discussing Poverty, and may have a funny story or two about me...
June 17th: A representative from Choices will be here to discuss Abortion
July 8th: The lovely Jennifer Lusk will talk about Adoption and Orphan Care
July 15th or 22nd: Heather Whitfield, our Church Administrative Assistant, will talk about ways that Christians can help work toward ending sex trafficking
- Hixson Community Kickball will also return on Sunday evenings, starting June 7th at the Hixson Youth Athletic Fields. The cost to play kickball is just $10 per student total for the whole summer. You can sign up to play kickball by following this link!
I need help with these events, with Kickball, and possibly with Sunday School. If interested, please call or email me so we can talk. Many hands make light work!
Something different about this summer is the medical release form. Because we now promote 5th graders at the beginning of the summer, we want to offer the medical release form for the upcoming school year now instead of making them fill out 2 forms in a span of 3 months. This means we'll offer the form to everyone, starting at the beginning of the summer. Your current form will be good until September, so those of you with a form already on file have the entire summer to get the new one filled out and notarized! You can download the form by clicking here.
Jamaica Team :Remember to check the Jamaica Team Page for your to do list and updates.

Also, the Jamaica Team Commissioning will be Sunday, June 14th during the worship service
There are NO D-Groups this week. Our Next Youth Meeting will be Underground on Wednesday, June 3rd.
