Revealing the Heart-Part 2
Ephesians 4:32: "You must practice being kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has graciously forgiven you."
I remember some years ago being absolutely angry at a person in the community. I was on a committee with him and I was as silent as I could be when at the meetings. I smiled and played as if I was just fine. After hearing this great message, as I was sitting in a crowd of pastors in Atlanta, tears began streaming down my face and I realized that my heart problem was sin (anger and bitterness) and that the solution was to confess it to God based on I John 1:9* and to seek His forgiveness. Very few knew of the radical transformation that took place inside me that day, but I have never forgotten that the other person didn't cause my sin, I did.
I have found over the years this lesson to be true: circumstances and people reveal, not cause, your spirit. A healthy time of reflection will bring to the surface any harbored issues; then you can deal with them through prayer and confession and move ahead with God and others.
*If we confess our sins, He is just and may be trusted to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from every kind of wrong.—I John 1:9
Prayer: Thank You, God for Your example as our Father of living in love. Thank You, Christ for loving me too and giving Yourself as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1)
